Top Gun Ride for Children
What began six years ago as a ride with less than 50 bikes has grown into an event that attracts hundreds of
bikers each year and has generated in excess of $100,000 for abused and neglected children and youth and the men
and women serving our country.
The Top Gun Ride for Children began with less than 20 bikes participating. The committee looks back now and laughs
about how there were more bikes escorting the ride than there were actually participating in it. All of that has changed.
On a scorching hot day in June 2004, more than 100 bikes gathered in Kennesaw for the 2nd Top Gun Ride for Children.
The committee had reached its goal of increasing the number of participants. Despite the high temperatures everyone made
the best of the event.
A simply gorgeous day in April was the setting for the 2005 Top Gun Ride. The weather was perfect and everyone took
full advantage of it. Only in its third year and the ride pushed 400 participants. An unforgettable surprise for that
day was riding down the runway at Dobbins. Bikers are sure to be talking about that for years to come.
The 2006 event was payoff for the committee’s dedication and hard work. Over 500 participants came out on a beautiful
Saturday in May to enjoy the ride. The number of bikes created an amazing visual as they enter the Naval Air Station
and proceeded to the runway.
Of course the only thing constant in life is change and in 2007 the Top Gun Ride for Children had a new ending
location. After an hour of touring through Cobb County the ride came back to Kennesaw at McCollum Air Field. FlightWorks
came on board as a sponsor and served as host location where bikers could enjoy the food and music.
Plans are underway for 2008. The ride is scheduled for April 19 with registration beginning at Noon in the Kennesaw
Hooters parking lot. Registration ends at 4:00 p.m. and the ride leaves promptly at 4:30 p.m.
